Signing of Open Skies Treaty with EU expected in 2014

The signature of the Treaty on Open Skies with the European Union is expected in 2014. If concluded, it will enter into force in 2015, Ukraine's Deputy Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Korniyenko briefed the press on Tuesday.

"In the air traffic today one of the major issues is a common aviation space with the EU. Negotiations are running quite effectively. The signature of the agreement is expected in the summer of 2014, and its entry into force - at the beginning of 2015," the deputy minister noted.

He said that this issue is a priority of the State Aviation Service and the Ministry of Infrastructure. Seven rounds of talks have been already held, the last - eighth - is scheduled to take place in October this year.

According to the deputy minister, in air traffic now there are almost no restrictions on flights to Russia, also we continue to prepare agreements on the liberalization of air service with the United States, Israel and Italy. "Air carriers perform flights from all the declared cities of the Russian Federation. Similar talks are being held with the U.S., Israel, Italy," Korniyenko said.

A reminder that the principle of Open Skies involves the removal of restrictions by countries on the number routes and air carriers for flights among the participating countries.
