Russian Crude Oil Imports to the EU Embargo: Database of August 2024 Violations

In August 2024, 7 violations of the EU embargo on seaborne imports of Russian crude oil from the Black Sea were recorded. Four were involved the delivery of crude oil to a transshipment point in the Laconian Gulf off the coast of Greece. Three direct voyages were made to the ports of the EU countries. In August 2024, a total of 897.066 tons of Russian crude oil were delivered to the EU in violation of the embargo.

Russian Black Sea Ports Oil Product Imports to the EU Embargo: Database of August 2024 Violations

In August 2024, 12 violations of the EU embargo on seaborne imports of Russian petroleum products (excluding crude oil) from the Black Sea were recorded. 6 of violations involved the delivery of petroleum products to a transshipment points in the Laconian Gulf off the coast of Greece. 5 direct voyages were made to the ports of the EU countries and one to the USA. In August 2024, 578,701 tons of Russian petroleum products were delivered in violation of the embargo.

39 Tankers Exported Kazakh Oil from Russian Black Sea Port of Novorossiysk In August 2024: Database

In August 2024, a total of 39 tankers exported CPC oil from the Russian port of Novorossiysk, excluding the exports to Bulgaria and Romania. Together they exported a total of about 5.2 million tons of oil, including 4 million tons to the EU and 1.2 million tons to other countries.

208 Tankers Exported Crude Oil and Oil Products from Russian Black Sea Ports in August 2024: Database

The Monitoring Group of the Black Sea Institute of Strategic Studies and BlackSeaNews, based on the results of its own monitoring, presents a database of seaborne exports of crude oil and petroleum products from Russian ports on the Black and Azov Seas in August 2024. In total, in August 2024, 208 tankers exported oil and petroleum products from Russian ports (excluding exports to Bulgaria and Romania). They transported a total of about 13 million tons of cargo, including 4.2 million tons of Russian crude oil, 5.2 million tons of Kazakh CPC crude oil, and 3.6 million tons of Russian petroleum products.

Since April 2024, the Monitoring Group, in addition to continuing its now traditional monitoring of maritime exports of crude oil and petroleum products from Russian Black Sea ports, has also started monitoring of maritime exports from the country's Baltic Sea ports. Below, for the first time, we offer a consolidated analysis of oil exports from those two seas - the Black and the Baltic, that amount to about 80% of Russia's total of oil and oil product maritime exports.

The voyages were made by tankers belonging to shipowners registered in the following countries: Greece, Italy and Azerbaijan.

In total, 92 tankers exported crude oil from Russian ports on the Baltic Sea. They transported a total of about 10.4 million tons of crude oil.

They transported a total of about 13 million tons of cargo, including 3.4 million tons of Russian crude oil, 5.9 million tons of Kazakh CPC crude oil, and 3.6 million tons of Russian petroleum products.

Four direct voyages were made to the ports of the EU countries. In July 2024, 637,442 tons of Russian petroleum products were delivered in violation of the embargo.

Database of Ukrainian Attacks on the Occupied Crimea, Russian Ships and Facilities on the Black Sea Coast in January-June 2024

Between January and June 2024, i.e. over 182 days, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched no less than 83 attacks on targets in the occupied Crimean Peninsula and ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Those included at least: 26 attacks on Sevastopol, 11 on Russian Navy ships in the Black and Azov Seas, 19 on Yevpatoria, Saky, Black Sea and Rozdolne districts (Western Crimea), 8 on Dzhankoi district, 5 on Feodosia region, and 17 on the Black Sea coast of the Russian Federation.
