Naftogaz to pump up to 2.5 billion cubic meters of Russian gas in August

NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine is planning to pump 2-2.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas purchased from Russia's Gazprom into underground gas storage facilities in August 2013.

Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky stated this on Thursday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"In August, we're planning to buy 2-2.5 billion cubic meters. All of this gas will be pumped into underground storage facilities," he said.

As reported, Russia's Gazprom is the main supplier of gas for Ukraine. Last year Ukraine purchased 32.87 billion cubic meters of natural gas. In 2013, Naftogaz is planning to reduce the purchase of natural gas from Russia to 18-20 billion cubic meters.

Moreover, natural gas is also imported to Ukraine in reverse mode from Europe - under a contract signed with Germany's RWE Supply & Trading GmbH. The delivery began in November 2012.
