Energy Ministry: Gas imports shrink by more than three times in June

Ukraine imported 916 million cubic meters of natural gas in June 2013, which was 2.184 billion cubic meters, or 70.4%, less than in June 2012, according to the website of the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry.

In general, in the first half of 2013, Ukraine imported 10.296 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which was 5.62 billion cubic meters, or 35.3%, less than in the same period in 2012.

At the same time, natural gas production in Ukraine in the first half of 2013 rose by 231.4 million cubic meters, or 2.3%, year-over-year, to 10.38 billion cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption in the country shrank to 1.957 billion cubic meters in June 2013 and 28.502 billion cubic meters in the first half of the year (8.7% and 7.8% less than in the same periods last year).

Natural gas transit in June 2013 amounted to 7.188 billion cubic meters, which was 1.33 billion cubic meters, or 22.7%, more than in June 2012. In the first half of 2013, natural gas transit shrank by 5.002 billion cubic meters, or 11.3%, year-over-year, to 39.353 billion cubic meters.
