Free-wheeling vacationers bring good income to Turkey

According to results of the research, carried out upon the request of the Anatolian Tourism Administration, backpackers are more «profitable» guests of Turkey, since when being on vacation they spend more time and money than people, coming with tourist vouchers.

Backpacking is a term, meaning not just independent travelling (without travel agency services), but, in the first place, the maximum possible inexpensive trips. Up to 30% of the global tourism trips fall on the backpacking, Тurtsia.ru reports.

It is mainly used by young people from Germany, Australia, France, the USA, and New Zealand. The list of the most popular countries for inexpensive trips includes Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, and Thailand. Recently this list has been supplemented with Turkey.

According to the research, backpackers stay in Turkey by 2.6 times longer than ordinary tourists (approximately 12 days at various regions of the country and additional 6 days in Istanbul). Due to the duration of their stay they spend not less than ordinary tourists.

On the average each independent traveler leaves $972 in Turkey. The research has been carried out in Istanbul, and more than 800 backpackers from different countries of the world have taken part in the poll.
