The military Ukrainian-Russian Navy exercises Farvater Myru 2013 launch in Sevastopol headlined Joint Counter-Piracy Operations in the Sea.

The official ceremony was attended by Commander of Ukrainian Navy Vice Admiral Yurii Ilyin, Defense Minister Assistant Viktor Maksimov, Director of Exercises – Commander of Russian Black Sea Navy Vice Admiral Oleksandr Vitko, etc.

In his opening speech Vice Admiral Yurii Yliyn noted that a lot of job had been done before these exercises.

“I am happy to remark that we’ve been cooperating for the third year while preparing and conducting the exercise. We’ve managed to achieve a new level of this cooperation between our fleets,” he stressed.

These exercises are aimed to develop single views concerning counter-piracy operations, work out joint actions of ships crews and aviation of both fleets, SAR operations, and so on.

About 15 ships and vessels, aircrafts of both fleets participate in these evolutions. The Ukrainian navy will be represented by Khmelnitskyi Corvette, Cherkassy Minesweeper, Socal Sanitary Cutter, 2 Willard boats, 1 An-26 aircraft, 1 Mi-14 helicopter and 15 combat divers.

The episodes of naval phase of exercise will be held on June 25: exercises on control of navigation security and suspected vessel inquiry, the personnel will accomplish firing training, bombing, etc.
