13.01.2026 (morning)
Region attacked: Odesa
Weapon/Carrier: ≥10 UAVs, 1 Kh-31P ARM
Target: Civilian and energy infrastructure
Impact: In Odesa, Russian forces carried out two waves of attacks targeting civilian, energy, and social infrastructure from around 11:30 p.m. on January 12 until 3:00 a.m. on January 13. A total of 45 apartments in eight multi-storey buildings were damaged, with 245 windows shattered and façades affected. The Odesa Professional Lyceum of Construction and Architecture was also hit: nearly 200 windows were blown out, the accounting office and archives were burned, one wall was breached and another destroyed. The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland sustained damage as well.
For the first time, Russian forces attempted to strike the building housing a UN humanitarian mission: two Shahed-136 loitering munitions followed the same trajectory toward the site, damaging the façade glazing. Six civilians were injured in the attack.

A ballistic missile hit the container pier area at the Port of Chornomorsk, where an unidentified civilian vessel flying the Maltese flag was present. The strike caused a fire, damaged three containers, and resulted in an oil spill. One crew member was injured.
For reference: In January, surveys of the Odesa coastline recorded mass die-offs of marine organisms, particularly Black Sea seahorses (Hippocampus guttulatus). Ecologists attribute the mortality primarily to thousands of tons of vegetable oil entering the sea as a result of Russian strikes on port infrastructure. The oil settles on the seabed and is resuspended into bottom waters during storms, clogging fish gills and impairing respiration. The impact has already affected filter-feeding mussel colonies that help maintain coastal water quality. Similar effects have been documented in the Tuzly Lagoons National Nature Park.

For reference: Between January–December 2024, the BSN Monitoring Group recorded at least 140 Russian missile and UAV attacks on port, energy, and other infrastructure in Odesa Oblast, where the maritime corridor operates. During this period, the Ukrainian Navy destroyed at least 12 naval mines in the Black Sea, with at least 6 of them located in Odesa Oblast.

In 2024, Russian attacks damaged seven civilian vessels involved in the operation of Ukraine’s grain corridor:

1. 10.07.2024. ARTEY. IMO: 8879251. Flag: Cameroon. DWT 3584 t. Type of ship: General Cargo Ship. Year of build 1970. The vessel was damaged by missile fragments at the Port of Chornomorsk. Two people were killed—a security guard and a truck driver. A deckhand aboard the vessel was injured.

2. 11.09.2024. AYA. IMO: 9117868. Flag: St. Kitts and Nevis. DWT 27239 t. Type of ship: Bulk Carrier. Year of build 1997. An air-launched anti-ship cruise missile Kh-22 fired from a Tu-22 bomber struck the bulk carrier transporting wheat from the Port of Chornomorsk to Egypt. The missile hit the vessel near Romania’s Port of Năvodari within Romania’s exclusive economic zone but outside its territorial waters. The ship sustained damage. The bulk carrier was likely not a target but was hit due to errors by the bomber crew during missile targeting or the use of outdated ammunition. The missile’s failure to detonate prevented a potentially catastrophic outcome.

3. 20.09.2024. GOLDEN LION. IMO: 9363974. Flag: Antigua and Barbuda. DWT 6315 t. Type of ship: General Cargo Ship. Year of build 2006. The vessel was struck by a Russian ballistic missile Iskander-M near cargo hold No.2 at Pivdennyi Sea Port during grain loading operations. No crew members were injured. The owner refuted Russia’s claims that the vessel was transporting ammunition to Ukraine and thus constituted a legitimate military target.

The UN Grain Corridor operated from August 1, 2022, to July 17, 2023, when the agreement terminated due to Russia's withdrawal. The Ukrainian export corridor, that doesn’t include Russia or the UN, started operating on August 1, 2023, and continues today. The corridor passes through three ports of Odesa Oblast — Odesa Sea Port, Pivdennyi Sea Port and the Port of Chornomorsk — and the territorial waters of Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Romania.

Further details can be found at Ukrainian Black Sea Corridor as Russia's Key Military Target.
