US to grant Moldova over 1 million dollars to develop National Army's training infrastructure

Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti met US Ambassador to Moldova, William H. Moser on 1 October. The officials discussed Moldova's participation in the Global Initiative for peace-keeping operations funded by the American government, the presidency's media service has reported.

Moldova will benefit from 1, 6 million dollars in the context of this initiative.The proceeds will be used to improve the training infrastructure of the National Army, Bulboaca-based military training centre in particular.

The Moldovan president thanked the American ambassador for the support the USA offers Moldovan National Army on the matter of its modernisation. The head of the state voiced conviction that the Moldovan-American military cooperation will help strengthen the abilities of the Moldovan peace-keeping troops, and will expand their activity under the aegis of the UNO.

William H. Moser praised the training of the Moldovan peace-keeping troops and the activity of Defence Minister Vitalie Marinuta in particular. The latter coordinated several Moldovan-American military projects, including Moldova's accession to the Global Initiative for peace-keeping operations.

Nicolae Timofti and William H. Moser agreed to pay a joint visit to the Bulboaca-based military training centre later on, to assess the training of the Moldovan peace-keeping troops.
