“Aeroflot” to invest $100 million into the Ryanair-model low-cost development

“Aeroflot” has defined the strategy for development of a low-cost company, which is scheduled for launching in March 2014. There are plans to base it on the model of development of largest low-cost companies Ryanair and Jet Star.

The company will be probably headed by Vladimir Gorbunov – former General Manager of “Avianova” low-cost company, closed down in 2011 due to the conflict between shareholders. Currently Gorbunov is the Regional Manager of Airbus in Russia.

The investment program of the low-cost company will be approximately 100 million dollars for the next 2 years.

In 2014 company’s aircrafts will fly to St. Petersburg, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Makhachkala, Krasnodar, Ufa, Kaliningrad, and Novy Urengoy. There are plans to have 26 destinations in 2016. The network will probably include international destinations – Kyiv, Istanbul, Erevan, and Barcelona. The low-cost company will fly from Domodedovo.
