Azerbaijan’s largest volcano erupts

The Akhtarma-Pashaly Volcano in the Gajigabul District of Azerbaijan has erupted with about 220 cubic meters of mass, APA cites Adil Aliyev, head of the volcano section of the Geological Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences.

The volcano is located 35km away from Shirvan. It erupted for the first time in 1948 and the seventh time today. Its eruptions covered 18 hectares of land with an average thickness of 1.2 meters. A crack 2km long was formed with a depth of 2m and wideness of 30-80cm.

The volcano has a crater diameter of about 10km. 21% of volcanoes in Azerbaijan have oil leftovers after eruptions.
