Moldovan government announces December 25 and 31 as days off

The Monday of December 31 this year will be a day off in Moldova, but citizens will work off this privilege on the Saturday of December 22, as per the decision passed by the Moldovan Government on December 19.

Moldovans will thus enjoy a New Year vacation that will last 4 days – December 29-31 and January 1.

However, only 3 days afterwards, another mini-vacation will follow on the occasion of the Orthodox Christmas that will last from January 5 to January 8.

Moreover, on the initiative of Prime Minister Vladimir Filat, December 25 was also announced as a day off, «when many Orthodox believers will celebrate Christmas [in Romania]», the Premier remarked, and proposed to compensate it with work on another day in January to be determined yet.

In his words, next year the Government will put forward an amendment to legislation so that to make December 25 an official holiday – an extra red date in the national calendar
