Moldovan farmers to have more access to markets

The Moldovan parliament on March 29, 2013 voted a draft law, which sees that owners and administrators of Moldovan agricultural-food markets would be obliged to reserve at least 20 per cent of the market’s territory for merchants who sell Moldovan fruits and vegetables.

The initiative belongs to the democrat MPs and provides for the facilitation of Moldovan farmers’ access to commercial areas and markets.

“The initiative is meant to adjust the legislation to the agricultural producers’ requirements and brings up a new principle of the market's space management. The draft law would also increase the competitiveness of Moldovan agricultural products,” Democrat MP Oleg Tulea said.

Several liberal-democrat MPs asked the authors to supplement their legislative initiative with sanctions for the violation of the law’s provisions and submit the draft law to the parliament for its second reading.
