Hungary to further back Moldova’s EU integration goal

On February 26, 2013 the chairman of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and EU integration, Igor Corman held a meeting with Hungarian Ambassador to Moldova Mátyás Szilágyi, the parliament’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The Hungarian ambassador praised the Moldovan-Hungarian positive friendship and collaboration ties and welcomed Moldova’s progress on its EU integration path. Mátyás Szilágyi reiterated Hungary’s further support for Moldova’s democratic reforms and EU integration goal.

In the same context, Corman praised the excellent Moldovan-Hungarian bilateral ties, mutual support and the improvement of the parliamentary cooperation. Corman spoke about the official visit Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu had paid to Hungary on 9-11 September 2012 as well as the visit the delegation of the Moldovan-Hungarian friendship caucus within the Hugarian National Assembly had paid to Chisinau on 9-11 October 2012.

In the context of Moldova’s EU integration, Igor Corman thanked Hungary for backing Moldova’s EU integration goal during its chairmanship of the EU in the first quarter of 2011 as well as for its firm efforts to promote the Eastern Partnership and Moldova in particular. The Moldovan official said Moldova was further assuming its full commitment to meet its EU integration goal, in spite of the current political instability.

Corman said a potential visit of the Hungarian speaker to Moldova in 2013, would further boost up bilateral friendship ties and consolidate the Moldovan-Hungarian parliamentary cooperation as well.
