Moldova, UN sign new cooperation programme for 2013-2017

Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat and UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova Nicola Harrington-Buhay signed on December 20 an action plan on the United Nations - Moldova Partnership Framework (UNPF) «Towards Unity in Action», the government's communication and media relations department has reported.

The partnership framework focuses on three thematic pillars that complement Moldova's national priorities and economic growth agenda.

I - the justice and human rights reform, which represents the UN's specific mandate and is a rather important sector for Moldova

II - inclusive education, quality health services and social protection.

III - environment, climate changes and risk management.

The assistance the UN offers for the framework programme for 2013-2017 amounts to 218 million dollars.

Filat voiced gratitude for the professionalism and continuous support the UN offers, saying the UN s support and cooperation are important not only because it provides funds for projects, but also because it backs Moldova in fulfilling its aspirations and international commitments.

Filat said the support the UN offers the Moldovan government to eradicate poverty, fight corruption, combat human and drug trafficking, promote democracy and an efficient governance, develop the private sector and reform the health care system, is rather important.

Filat noted that the government appreciates the assistance provided to implement policies and development programmes in Moldova, noting that the country relies on deepening the cooperation and partnership relations meant to speed up the implementation of the ambitious development agenda.

For her part, Nicola Harrington-Buhay said she was honoured to launch the UN action plan for 2013-2017 titled «Towards Unity in Action».

Nicola Harrington-Buhay Welcomed the initiative that Moldova should be among the first countries in the world to carry out the UN reform through coordination and joint results of the UN agencies. She noted that she will facilitate Moldova s access to the huge diversity of the UN family and vowed adjustment to the national policies and systems in order to back more efficiently the work of the Moldovan authorities. She also praised Moldova's active involvement in the global discussion on the development agenda after 2015 «The Future We Want».
