Georgia investigates attack on president

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili was attacked during a break between 4 and 5 pm at the office of the United National Movement in Kutaisi. The crowd demanding his resignation blocked him from leaving the office and threw rocks at his convoy.

Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili urged the population to abstain from provocations and the police to investigate the incident.

Speaker of Parliament David Usupashvili asked the police to give the parliament information about the incident.

Saakashvili said that the initiative to move the parliament from Kutaisi back to Tbilisi caused a halt to many projects. The Tskhaltubo project was frozen on October 2. Many hotel projects were halted. A 21-storey apartment was to be built in front of the parliament.
