Joining of other countries to railway project «Baku-Tbilisi-Kars» will increase cargo traffic

The new rail link will make it possible to transport cargo via Georgia to Europe.

According to deputy head of CJSC «Azerbaijan Railways» Gurban Nazirov, railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars will be put into operation in 2014. According to forecasts, next year cargo traffic is expected to increase by 20-30%.

Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is built on the basis of the intergovernmental agreement between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

For construction of the Georgian section Azerbaijan has provided a loan of US$ 775 million. Since the start of the project’s financing and up to October 1, 2012, Azerbaijani State Oil Fund has allocated US$ 403.3 million.
