Moldova Eco-Energetica awarded its 2012 edition winners

Moldova Eco-Energetica, the largest contest of the most successful initiatives in the area of renewables and energy efficiency in Moldova, awarded its winners at the «Gala Moldova Eco-Energetica» Awards Ceremony.

During July 1 - September 20, 2012, as many as 65 applications were submitted to the contest, which were reviewed by groups of experts in two stages: application review and field visit.

«Using renewable energy sources and increasing the efficiency of energy use are priorities for the Republic of Moldova. This reform aims at enhancing the energy security of the country, diminishing the dependency on imports, creating new jobs and ultimately, protecting the environment. I welcome the initiative of launching a competition that acknowledges the most notable accomplishments in the area of renewable energy use and energy efficiency. I am confident that the success stories awarded today will encourage others to follow this example», said Vlad Filat, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, during Moldova Eco-Energetica Awards Ceremony.

«I am glad that the first edition of Moldova Eco-Energetica awards takes place in 2012, the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All, an initiative of the UN General Assembly which is supported by more than 60 governments, including the Government of Moldova», said Cihan Sultanoglu, Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Europe and CIS, UNDP. «Together with our partners, we work to provide people with access to modern energy services, to significantly reduce the energy consumption and to double the use of renewable energy sources worldwide».

As many as 11 winners – individuals, enterprises, public institutions, NGOs – have been declared as Champions of the Eco-Energy Sector of the Republic of Moldova: Best Project in Solar Energy: Ecowatt Impex SRL, Chisinau; Best Project in Wind Energy: Technical University of Moldova, Chisinau; Best Project in Geothermal Energy: Sergiu Cocarla, Chisinau; Best Project in Biomass Energy: Agrobiobrichet SRL; Best Project in Biogas Energy: Vasile Moraru, Colonita; Best Energy Efficiency Project in the Public Sector: Public Hospital from Orhei; Best Energy Efficiency Project in the Private Sector: Laiola SRL; Best Initiative of Public Communication and Awareness: Ion Muntean; Best Educational Initiative: Technical University of Moldova, Chisinau; Best Initiative of the Youth: Gutta Club.

Moldova Eco Energetica is organized by the Ministry of Economy and Agency for Energy Efficiency upon the initiative of Moldova Energy and Biomass Project, financed by the European Union and co-financed and implemented by UNDP.

The budget of the energy efficiency fund in 2012 stands at 100 million lei, whereas in 2013 it is planned to reach 160 million lei.
