38,000 lamps will be installed on the front of the Bolshoy Ice Dome in Sochi

Light engineers test the Dome’s gigantic media facade for showing ice hockey matches.

The facade consists of several thousand modules, which include white, blue, red, green and yellow LEDs. They are able to work both individually and jointly. Each module is individually controlled through a central server.

Currently, more than half of the equipment has been mounted on the roofage. A total of 38 thousand modules, connected by 40 km of cables will be installed on a dome with an area of over 20 ths sq m.

It is planned that during the 2014 Winter Games light engineers will install 4 types of lighting: outdoor, landscape, architectural and decorative. These systems will work in different modes - everyday, festive and scenario.
