AEI: Moldova shall not reject the EU Third Energy Package

The Republic of Moldova shall not reject the European Union’s Third Energy Package in exchange for an advantageous contract on Russian natural gas supply, Moldova’s governing Alliance for European Integration (AEI) leaders stated to the press following an AEI Council meeting held on September 18 night.

Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu stated he does not believe that Russia will really cut the gas price for Moldova [reportedly by 30%] if the republic secedes from the Third Energy Package.

Chairman of the parliamentary Liberal Democratic faction Valeriu Strelet presumes that Moldova should look for other possibilities for signing an advantageous gas contract with Moscow.

Honorable Chairman of the Democratic Party and leader of the DP parliamentary faction Dumitru Diacov said that the three AEI factions have decided to consider the draft Law on the 2013 State Budget as soon as only possible to be in time with adopting it.

One of the core elements of the third package is ownership unbundling which stipulates the separation of companies' generation and sale operations from their transmission networks.
