Ukraine and Turkey developed rules for railway ferries between their ports

Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure and Turkish Ministry of Transport, Posts and Maritime Communications have developed draft Rules of cargo traffic and draft Rules of freight wagon and container operation in direct international railway ferry communication between Ukrainian and Turkish ports that have railway communications.

The documents’ drafts were agreed upon in the course of Ukrainian-Turkish consultations on transport cooperation that took place in Kiev on August 28-30, Ukrainian Ministry release said.

The Rules are planned to be signed during the next visit of the Turkish Prime Minister to Ukraine. As soon as the Rules of cargo traffic become operational, trips from Illichivsk to Samsun will start (396nm or 740.52km).

Operational today is a railway ferry line from Odessa to Istanbul and 5 international ferry lines: from Illichivsk to Derince, from Skadovsk to Zonguldak, from Skadovsk to Istanbul, from Yevpatoria to Zonguldak, from Odessa to Istanbul and from Illichivsk to Haydarpaşa.

Besides, during the consultations, Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure proposed to its Turkish colleagues to develop combined traffic.
