Russian Crude Oil Imports to the EU Embargo: Database of August 2024 Violations

The Monitoring Group of the Black Sea Institute of Strategic Studies and BlackSeaNews reports on the results of its own monitoring of violations of the embargo on seaborne imports of Russian crude oil into EU countries in August 2024 (see Table 1).

In August 2024, 7 violations of the EU embargo on seaborne imports of Russian crude oil from the Black Sea were recorded.
Four were involved the delivery of crude oil to a transshipment point in the Laconian Gulf off the coast of Greece. Three direct voyages were made to the ports of the EU countries.
Shipowners from Greece (3), UAE (2), Marshall Islands (1) and China (1) performed these voyages.
In August 2024, a total of 897.066 tons of Russian crude oil were delivered to the EU in violation of the embargo, compared with 580.047 tons in July 2024.
