Moldovan Postal authorities given the right to keep secret personal data of its clients

The National Center for Protection of Personal Data has asserted the right of the Posta Moldovei state enterprise not to disclose the personal data of its clients to the National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC).

According to the National Center for Protection of Personal Data, the NACC has asked the Posta Moldovei Company to provide it detailed information on the dispatches sent from Moldova or delivered to the country from abroad, in 2012-2013. Yet, the Posta Moldovei enterprise maintains that this request was illicit and addressed to the National Center for Protection of Personal Data, in order to defend its right to keep secret the personal information of its clients.

According to the head of the Center for Protection of Personal Data juridical department, Nicolae Lungu, the National Anti-Corruption Center has the right to receive personal data only in particular cases that lie within its remit.

He also said that the information required by the NACC contains personal data, thus, the Posta Moldovei enterprise is not entitled to disclose it.
