Russia hopes to decuple demand for electric vehicles due to removal of duties

Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade considers the possibility for removal of duties on electric vehicle imports to the country.

According to the Ministry, in case of temporary nulling of duties the number of electric vehicles, imported in 2014, will rise by 10 times – at least 500 electric motive power cars will be imported to Russia.

According to companies, temporary removal of the import customs duties will cut down the price for such vehicles by 20%. The only electric vehicle currently represented at the Russian market – Mitsubishi i-MiEV – costs approximately 2 million rubles.

Initiators of this duty removal believe it will also stimulate the arrangement of the infrastructure for electric charging and respective service stations.
