24 thousand of Georgians may be deprived of their citizenship

State Service Development Agency at the Georgian Ministry of Justice has found out that 24 thousand Georgians are at the same time citizens of other countries, but have not informed the authorities about such situation.

According to Georgian laws, this fact may be used as a ground for denaturalization.

The Agency has turned to owners of foreign passports with the suggestion to file an application for dual citizenship.

According to the Georgian Constitution, the President of the country may, as an exception, provide Georgian citizenship to a foreign citizen for his/her outstanding public service to Georgia, as well as in cases when provision of the country’s citizenship to a foreigner is in the State interests.
