Moldovan Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Iulian Groza today held a meeting with a delegation of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe, headed by the deputy political counsellor, Daniil Khochabo, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s media and public relations department has reported.

The delegation of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe is paying a visit to Chisinau on 17-20 June in order to assess Moldova’s cooperation ties with the Council of Europe in 2011-2013 as well as to set up future priorities and actions.

During the meeting, the officials said Moldova’s partnership with the Council of Europe was efficient, praising its tangencies with the EU. The sides also noted that it was important to continue the implementation of programmes, which enhance the society and focus on specific results for the benefit of the citizens.

“The Council of Europe wants a better understanding of Moldova’s needs, whereas it must continue to implement the projects it has started, so that this cooperation would improve the situation in your country,” Khochabo said.

For his part, Groza thanked the Council of Europe for the support it had offered Moldova in various sectors, saying Moldova’s priorities were aligned to the EU agenda.

The EU officials congratulated Groza on his investiture, praising his support and participation in the implementation of the projects funded by the Council of Europe. According to them, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry is the most important institution that coordinates new programme proposals and makes sure that they comply with Moldova’s national policies, noting that this is highly welcomed by the EU institutions from Strasbourg.
