Turkey will continue restrictive measures against Bulgarian carriers

As of June 1 the restrictive measures of Turkish authorities in view of Bulgarian truck transport drivers will continue and even new measures will be introduced.

This is the position of Turkish carriers after eight-hour negotiations in Istanbul between representatives of the Bulgarian and the Turkish carrier branches. According to the Bulgarian side these measures aim at crushing the competitiveness of Bulgarian carriers. The Bulgarian stand is that these activities of the Turkish authorities are illegal and they violate international conventions.

The next step is for Bulgaria to introduce reciprocal measures for Turkish carrier companies, branch representatives commented in Sofia. Several days ago the restrictive measures from the Turkish side and the ensuing protests of Bulgarian truck drivers resulted in kilometers-long lines of heavy trucks at the Bulgarian-Turkish border checkpoint.
