Bulgaria launches export of Mavrud Wines to Canada

Bulgaria will start exporting local wines to Canada. Connoisseurs from Ottawa took a liking to our wines during the second Balkan Wine Forum, which took place in the Bulgarian capital on May 16-19, informed organizer Galina Niforu.

Canadian experts were impressed by the typical Bulgarian wine sorts, especially Mavrud, during the first wine sampling. In the event of successful negotiations between Bulgarian wine producers and distributors across the Atlantic, our wines will flood the North American market.

US businesses were the first to take an interest in Bulgarian wines.

Our output is very popular in New York and Chicago, and some franchises want a permanent supply of our wines, Bulgarian producers say. Swedes, Belgians and Italians have also shown an interest in Bulgarian wines.

Representatives of these countries were special guests at this year’s Balkan Wine Forum. Even though the guests were impressed by our beverages, Macedonian producers also won many trophies. Two Bulgarian producers won the Balkan trophies for sparkling wine and rose. Almost all the products of Villa Lyubimets’ In Solo, Pagane and Elektra selections earned gold, silver and bronze medals.
