Moldova to celebrate Europe Day

On May 14, 2013Interim Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and the head of the EU delegation to Moldova, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, today gave a joint news conference regarding the celebration of Europe Day in Moldova, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The officials made public the agenda of the events that will be organised starting with 18 May in order to celebrate Europe Day. According to them, the government will back the celebration of Europe Day, by involving in a string of actions that will be held all over the country on this occasion.

The acting prime minister said the celebration of Europe Day had already become a beautiful tradition in Moldova.

“Here in Moldova we celebrate Europe Day not only because of our geographical position as part of Europe. What actually matters in fact is that we decided to comply with, and, therefore, join the European values and civilisation, by choosing to follow the European development path, aiming at accession to the EU,” Leanca said.

The interim prime minister said Moldova had all the chances to meet its goals in 2013, especially in the context of the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius.
