Bulgaria’s President Wants 9 to 10 Fighter Jets for the Army

«Bulgaria needs to buy nine or ten fighter jets», – Bulgaria’s President Rosen Plevneliev said on May 6 on the occasion of the Day of Bulgarian Army.

President Plevneliev noted that Bulgarian experts had done a thorough research ahead of the anticipated purchase of fighter jets.

«Bulgaria will enter the final phase of the initial preparation for the purchase within a month», – President Plevneliev said. He noted that the next Parliament and government woulldl have the final word on the deal.

«I want all figures to be made public and available for debate in Parliament», – Plevneliev pointed out, arguing that the public procurement deal should be transparent. Unofficial information cited in the Bulgarian press recently said that Bulgaria was likely to buy nine third-hand F-16 fighter jets from Portugal.
