Bulgarians pay homage to the heroes of the April Uprising

Let us believe in ourselves and seek the heroes that could lead us to a dignified future, said in his festive address in Koprivshtitsa Caretaker PM Marin Raykov.

The 20th April square in this town was the venue of the festivities commemorating the 137th anniversary of the April Uprising. The goal of the rebels was the liberate Bulgaria from the 5-century-long Ottoman Domination yet this attempt was futile and was crushed with thousands of victims and displaced people.

In order to pay homage to the heroes of this act of bravery, thousands of people visited the Oborishte historic locality where in 1876 the first Great National Assembly in Bulgarian history was held where the delegates took the decision to declare the April Uprising.
