Three Romanian wines awarded gold at Challenge International du Vin in Bordeaux

Three Romanian wines made by Romanian wine producer Domeniul Coroanei Segarcea won two gold medals and one silver in the Challenge International du Vin competition carried on in early April in the wine region of Bordeaux, according a release of the company on Friday.

The three winning wines are the Sauvignon Blanc, the Chardonnay and a coupage made of Feteasca Alba, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. The Sauvignon Blanc 2011 got the gold, the Chardonnay 2011 got the silver medal and there was also awarded the Gold Minima Moralia - Honor in 2011.

At this year's edition of the Challenge International du Vin competition were tasted 4,360 wines from 28 countries.

The results of the competition hosted by Bourg et Blaye, in the Bordeaux region, were released on Friday. The competition is approved by the European Community since 1986 and according to the regulations it is carried out in compliance with the 'International Code of Oenological Practices for Vine and Wine'. The first edition was held in 1976 and every year the jury who tastes each wine is a mixed one, consisting of growers, winemakers, distributors and consumers.

Domeniul Coroanei Segarcea wines have won various medals in the international competitions in the previous years. These include the Sauvignon Blanc 2011 - Golden Medal at the Selections Mondiales of Vins, Canada 2012, Sauvignon Blanc 2009 - Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Belgium 2010, Romanian Tamaioasa 2011 - Gold Medal at Vinalies Internationales, France 2012, Romanian Tamaioasa 2011 - Gold Medal at the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition, USA 2012, Merlot 2007 - Gold Medal and 'Best Merlot in Romania' Mondial du Merlot, Switzerland 2010.
