New airport to be built in northern region of Azerbaijan

Research works has begun in a northern region of Azerbaijan to built a new airport, the head of the executive authority of the Guba region Yusif Abidov said, APA reports.

According to him, the airport will be important for this northern region of Azerbaijan from the viewpoint of both tourism and foreign capital investment.

The deputy head of the executive authority said that research is being conducted in neighbouring Khachmaz, Siyazan and Shabran. In Guba, the airport could be built in the area covering the villages of Dellekkend, Aghbil and Vladimirovka.

Abidov noted that an approximately 500-600 ha area is required for an airport: “This area must be located on the bank of a river to use construction materials. The executive authority has submitted the acceptable areas for an airport to specialists from Baku. The bank of the Gudyalchay River is more acceptable for construction of an airport. Examples of soil were sent for expert analysis. Specialists are inspecting an area covering some villages.”
