Bulgarian Orthodox Church nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church has been nominated for the Nobel Price for Peace. This year Bulgaria marks 70 years since the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War.

The destruction of 50 000 innocent civilians during the harshest hunt against the Jews was stopped by the effort of the entire Bulgarian society thanks to the action of 43 members of the 25th National Assembly of Bulgaria. Bulgarian Parliament in early 1943, headed by Dimitar Peshev, deputy chairman of parliament at that time and 21 intellectuals. It was a move for the rejection of the deportation of Bulgarian Jews and entailed the final decision of King Boris the Third of March 9, 1943.

The initiator and spiritual motor for the rescue of Bulgarian Jews from Nazi concentration camps was the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
