European Commission to assess Moldova’s implementation of visa free regime action plan

The European Commission has delegated a mission to evaluate on 11-15 March 2013 the Moldovan Information Technologies and Communications Ministry’s implementation of the provisions of the action plan on a visa free regime with the EU.

According to the ministry’s press service, the European Commission financed and implemented the joint project entitled “Biometric passports for Moldova”, whereas the centre for state information resources “Registru”, which is affiliated to the ministry, was the main beneficiary of the project. The implementation of the population register and legal entities register assures the integration of data from several state institutions based on the “Access” platform.

This information resource also ensures an increased security degree for travel documents issued by Moldovan authorities. The system offers authorities the opportunity to check online the documents issued by the population state register, thus avoiding the falsification of Moldovan passports.

The mission would present its conclusions on the ministry’s activity in this respect in a final evaluation report.
