Border police detains criminal group for smuggling of emigrants to Western Europe

The Bulgarian Interior Ministry announced that the Border police detained an organized crime group for smuggling of emigrants to Western Europe.

The police arrested a Palestinian citizen, hidden in a secret compartment of a mini-bus. The man confessed that he paid EUR 4000 to be taken illegally to Western Europe from Bulgaria. Ten Algerian nationals were arrested in the town of Blagoevgrad (Southwestern Bulgaria). They confessed they wanted to go to Macedonia and then depart to West Europe. In the town of Elhovo near the Turkish border, six men and four women were detained without ID documents. The detainees said they were Syrian nationals. There were also four children in this group.
