Azerbaijan to expand South Caucasus Gas Pipeline

Azerbaijan plans to build a new gas pipeline within the framework of the South Caucasus Gas Pipeline project of Shah Deniz-2 in Azerbaijan, according to public hearings on the construction process on March 12, 2013.

The new pipeline will start at Gajigabul and run to Georgia with a length of 386km. 56km more will run through Georgia to be connected with existing infrastructure.Azerbaijan will start preliminary construction activities in mid-2014 and main activities in early 2015, concluding in late 2017. The pipeline will be launched in 2018. 1200-1500 people will be building the pipeline. The project is worth $3 billion.
