Pensions to increase by 15 per cent in Moldova

Those who receive pensions lower than the subsistence minimum for retired people, equal to 1,311 lei, will benefit from a 15 per cent increase starting 1 April 2013. The cabinet today approved a decision to this effect.

The pensions will be increased due to the annual indexation of 6.75-per-cent. In addition, the monthly pensions that are lower than 1,300 lei will be increased by another 8.2-per-cent.

About 449 million lei are needed to operate the increase in pensions. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said, after the cabinet’s meeting, that this money would be allotted from the 2013 budget. According to the government’s data, about 693,000 people might benefit from the increase.

The draft law on the 8.2-per-cent raise of pensions for people having a monthly income lower than 1,300 lei shall also be examined by the parliament.
