Vodafone Romania to close Ploiesti call center, staff have option to move and keep jobs

Vodafone Romania is set to close its Ploiesti call center over the next two years but jobs should be safe, with workers to be given the option to move to other Vodafone facilities. By 2016, Vodafone will move staff and services to the Bucharest and Brasov centers and close the Ploiesti center.

The Ploiesti call center opened in 2006 and employs 2,000 people. No details have been released on the ultimate fate of the call center, which required a multimillion euro investment.

Vodafone Romania launched limited 4G services late last year and is currently the second largest mobile phone operator in the country. Along with Orange, it was a major bidder in the spectra license auction last year and secured many 15 year concessions on a large variety of bandwidths.

Telecom operator Vodafone Romania had service revenues of GBP 143 million (some EUR 177 million) in the quarter ended on December 31, 2012, according to the company. In the same period of 2011, Vodafone Romania’s service revenues were GBP 167 million.

Between July and September last year, the telecom operator’s service revenues in Romania were GBP 146 million.

Vodafone Romania increased its number of customers by some 248,000 in the last three months of 2012, to a total of 8.12 million, of which almost 60 percent were prepaid customers. On October 1, 2012, the telecom operator had 7.8 million customers in Romania. Full report here.

The revenues of telecom operator Vodafone Romania were down 5.2 percent between April and September in 2012, the first half of the company’s 2012-2013 financial year. Vodafone had revenues of GBP 311 million (some EUR 387 million) in Romania, where the drop was mainly caused by the decrease in interconnection tariffs, according to the operator.
