Romania has joined the successfully operating project of the “Viking” international container transit train.

The signature of the relevant memorandum on February 28 at the conference, devoted to the 10th anniversary of the international freight train launch, was announced by the Lithuanian Railways Company (Lietuvos geležinkeliai) General Manager Stasis Dajlidka.

According to his estimates, owing to such fact “convenient options” for railway transit to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and China may be offered.

“Viking” is a joint project of Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine. Bulgaria also participates in the project.

The international container train runs between the Black Sea port of Illichivsk and the Lithuanian Klaipeda at the Baltic Sea. The 1734 km journey takes 52 hours.
