Funds for creating museum of victims of communism in southeastern Ramnicu Sarat

The Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER) received from the Government the financial resources necessary to make the technical studies for the restoration of the former prison in Ramnicu Sarat (south-eastern Romania), which is managed by the above-mentioned institute and which it will organize as a Memorial to the Victims of Communism.

According to a release IICCMER sent to Agerpres, by resorting to this project, the institute has planned to change the former concentration area into an area 'of reflection on the criminal nature of communism.'

'Thus, after the finalization of the work meant to rehabilitate and arrange the museum, which is estimated for 2016, the Ramnicu Sarat memorial will be a focus for cultural, documentary and tourist projects and will host the visits of numerous personalities from the Romanian and international public life,' reads the above-mentioned release.

The source mentioned above reads that in June 2007 the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile started managing the former prison at Ramnicu Sarat with a view to organizing a Memorial to the Victims of Communism.
