Bucharest’s Henri Coanda and Baneasa airports registered a total of 7.45 million passengers in 2012, an increase of 1.3 percent on the previous year, according to the National Bucharest Airports Company. There were 98,600 landings and take-offs over the year at the two airports.

Currently, 32 airlines flying to 68 destinations operate at the Henri Coanda airport, Otopeni. Last year, two airlines began operations at Bucharest’s main international airport – TAP Portugal and Flydubai.

In 2012, 84 percent of the passengers at the Otopeni airport were flying to destinations within the European Union and 68 percent went to airports in the Schengen area.

Blue Air, Wizzair and Germanwings transferred flights from Bucharest Baneasa airport to the Henri Coanda International Airport on March 25, 2012, after the Baneasa airport closed down for commercial flights.

The National Bucharest Airports Company started operations in February 2010 and provides operational coordination and management of Bucharest’s two airports – Bucharest Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu Airport and the Otopeni Henri Coanda International Airport.
