Bulgarian MEP warns about ongoing cases of ill-treatment over ethnic Bulgarians in Macedonia

During the debate in the European Parliament on the report for Macedonia’s progress in 2012 the Bulgarian MEP Evgeni Kirilov again raised the issue for the increasing nationalist moods in Macedonia and warned that there are many cases of ill-treatment of Macedonians with Bulgarian self-awareness.

Kirilov reminded the case when the Bulgarian ambassador to Macedonia was attacked last year during the celebrations of a historical anniversary. He also stressed on the fact that almost one year later the Macedonian police does not know the names of the perpetrators.

The Bulgarian member of the European Parliament also informed about the existence of working groups which are dealing with the issues regarding the relations between Bulgaria and Macedonia. However Bulgaria expects real action from Macedonia rather than simulation of negotiations only, Kirilov concluded.
