Armenia offers Russia territory for new radar construction

Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Oganyan said today that Armenia does not mind construction of a Russian radar on its territory to compensate the expired lease of the Qabala Radar Station, News Armenia reports.

The Qabala Radar was built in the north of Azerbaijan in the 1980s as part of the anti-missile shield. It became Azerbaijani property after the collapse of the USSR. Russia’s lease of the facility expired on December 9, 2012, and exploitation on December 10, 2012.
