EU-financed «Energy and Biomass» project to extend all over Moldova in 2013

This year, another 12 Moldovan raions will join the project «Energy and Biomass»financed by the European Union.

According to the its organizers, this week, the project will be officially presented in Straseni, Taraclia, Causeni, Calarasi, Nisporeni and Ialoveni raions. Representatives of this project will present it at the meetings with local authorities and residents. At the same time, they will visit the institutions, where biomass heating systems can be installed.

Thus, all those interested can submit their requests and applications for shifting to alternative energy resources. All the projects will be thoroughly analyzed and the best ones will be put into life.    

Over the past two years, 104 settlements from 20 Moldovan raions have been selected for connecting their social institutions to alternative sources of energy.  As many as 121 schools, kindergartens, mayoralties and community centers have benefitted from biomass heating systems, within the project «Energy and Biomass». This made it possible to create new 226 jobs and to open many production lines for granulated and briquette bio-energy products obtained from processing biomass.  

The overall amount of investments in these settlements exceeded US$8.1 million, whereas the contribution of the local communities stood at US$2.4 million.  

According to the plans, by year 2014, at least 130 social institutions in the country will be provided with biomass heating systems.  

As already reported by Infotag, the «Energy and Biomass» project is envisaged for 2011-2014. Its budget stands at 14.56 million euros, provided by the European Union (14 million euros) and by the United Nations Development Project in Moldova (560 thousand euros).
