Moldova to get visa free travels to Norway if obtains visa free regime with EU

Moldovan Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca held a joint news conference with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide on January 15. Leanca said Moldovan citizens will travel to Norway without a visa, if Moldova obtains a visa free regime with the EU.

According to Leanca, Norway is part of several European agreements, including the Schengen area, though it is not an EU member-state. He said it is for the first time when a Norwegian foreign minister visits Moldova. «It is a historical visit meant to consolidate bilateral efforts and build an active political dialogue. It is also a good opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties,» Leanca said.

According to Leanca, the officials discussed basic aspects related to Moldovan-Norwegian ties and their development prospects in sectors of mutual interest as well as Moldova's progress on its EU integration path.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide reiterated Norway's support for Moldova's EU integration efforts. «Our visit to Chisinau is meant to show strong support for Moldova's internal reforms and European path. Both Moldovan and EU citizens will benefit from the reforms that are now being implemented, as they speed up Moldova's EU integration process,» Eide said.
