Austrians spend some EUR 52 million in Romania in 2012

Over 218,000 Austrians visited Romania in 2012, up 14 percent on the previous year, and these tourists alone spendt some EUR 52 million in Romania, according to the Romanian Tourism Promotion Office in Austria, quoted by Mediafax newswire.

This was the highest number of Austrian tourists a year to Romania so far, after 2007, when 217,000 Austrian tourists arrived in the country.

The total amount spent by Austrians in Romania has also increased. According to the National Austrian Bank, Austrians spent some EUR 44 million in the first third quarters of 2012 in Romania, up 15.8 percent on the same period of 2011. The EUR 52 million amount estimated by end-2012 does not include transport fees.

The increasing trend should continue in 2013, especially as the year started with some promotion for Romania in Austria. Romania was the partner country for the Ferien Messe 2013 tourism fair in Vienna, which took place between January 10 and 13. Austrians showed interested in trips in nature, urban tourism and Danube cruises up to the Danube Delta in Romania.
