New road fees come into effect in Moldova

The new road fees for cars with Moldovan license plates entered into force on January 11, after being published in Moldova’s Official Gazette [Monitorul Oficial].

According to the new provisions adopted by the Parliament, the tax for small vehicles has doubled, while for heavy vehicles, buses and minibuses it raised by 50%. Thus, from now on, the road tax for cars with an engine capacity of up to 2,000 cubic centimeters will stand at 0.4 lei per cubic centimeter. For cars with an engine volume of 2,001 – 3,000 cubic centimeters, it will make 0.6 lei per cubic centimeter, whereas for vehicles with an engine capacity of 3,001- 4,000 cubic centimeters, it will make 0.8 lei per cubic centimeter. Owners of cars with an engine capacity of 4,001 – 5,000 will pay 1 leu per cubic centimeter, whereas those with an engine volume of over 5,000 cubic centimeters will pay a tax of 1.2 lei per cubic centimeter.

According to the Moldovan road strategy, at least 80% of the excises on the imported gasoline and diesel oil must be transferred to the Road Fund. The budget of the Road Fund in 2013 will stand at 1.079 billion lei, against 1.024 billion lei in 2012.
