Revenues from tourist tax increased significantly in Odessa

Odessa City Council Culture and Tourism Department announced that the amount of revenue from tourist tax exceeded 2 million UAH in December 2012.

According to Odessa City Council’s decision № 2165-VI from July 24, 2012 Odessa City Council of Culture and Tourism Department was determined to be the authorized body for signing of agreements on collecting the tourist tax. In less than six months of its work, the tourist inspection of "Tourist Information Center of Odessa" CE acquired over UAH 2 million from tourist tax in the city's budget.

"This is a very important figure and a very important achievement, which confirms the fact that the demand of Odessa as a tourist destination is growing. For comparison, in 2011, Odessa budget received 1.6 million UAH from the tourist tax. At the end of 2012, we have a sum to exceed $ 2 million. In addition, we have held interesting press tours, and information about Odessa and its tourism potential is placed on pages of Ukrainian periodicals and publications onboard of the Ukrainian Airlines", emphasized the Culture and Tourism Dept Head Tatyana Markova.

The functions of "Tourist inspection" dept of "TIC Odessa" CE include inspection of the hotels, signing contracts to pay tourist tax, identifying defaulters and entrepreneurs engaged in illegal commercial activities in providing the tourists with short-stay places.

Tourist tax is charged to every tourist in the amount of 1% of the hotel price in Odessa.
