Bulgaria is the 60th most free economy of the world

Bulgaria is placed on the 60th position in view of economic freedom in the world. The assessment is based on the 2013 index of the Washington-based Heritage Foundation Institute.

Bulgaria stands 29th out of 43 countries in Europe and its overall result of 65 points is above average in the world but below average for the region. Heritage Foundation points out that the increase of Bulgaria’s overall rating by 0.3 points is due to the improved management of state expenses.

The Institute adds that despite the difficult global economic medium, which has slowed down economic growth in latter years, Bulgaria has preserved a strong impulse in the liberalization of economic activities and has taken steps for restoring fiscal discipline. The Institute however is critical in view of Bulgaria for the existing corruption and the inefficient and vulnerable, politically influences judicial system.
