Bulgarian Orthodox community in Istanbul celebrate Christ’s birth

Christmas is one of the biggest holidays for the Orthodox Bulgarian community in Istanbul.

As usual many Christians welcomed Christ’s birth in the Bulgarian exarchy in the Sisli district of the city. Near the Golden Horn the renovation of the unique St. Stephen church, called also the Iron Church continues. The church is included in the list for joint protection of historical monuments signed by Bulgaria and Turkey. A number of Orthodox Christians celebrated Christmas in the St. George church in Edirne. Turkish President Gul also wished merry Christmas to Christians in Turkey.
